How to Determine Your Ring Size at Home — Accurate & Easy

Getting the ring size right is one of the most important details when buying an engagement ring or wedding band. A ring that's too loose can slip off and get lost. One that's too tight is uncomfortable and difficult to remove.

Method 1: Use a Ring You Already Own

Take a ring that fits the intended finger well. Measure the inside diameter in millimeters. Use a ring size chart: 15.7mm = size 5, 16.5mm = size 6, 17.3mm = size 7, 18.1mm = size 8, 19.0mm = size 9. Make sure the ring is from the correct finger.

Method 2: The String Method

Wrap a piece of string snugly around the base of the finger. Mark where the ends meet. Measure the length in millimeters. Divide by 3.14 to get the diameter. Match to a size chart. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are slightly larger.

Method 3: Printable Sizer

Download a free printable ring sizer from a jeweler. Make sure you print at 100% scale (no scaling). These paper strips wrap around the finger with pre-marked measurements.

Proposal Secret Measuring Tips

If you're planning a surprise: borrow a ring she wears on her ring finger and trace the inside on paper. Ask her best friend or mom (they often know). Take a ring from her jewelry box — just make sure it's from the left ring finger.

Ring Size Tips

Finger size changes with temperature and time of day. Wider bands (6mm+) may need a half size larger. If between sizes, always go up — a ring can be made smaller but can't easily be enlarged. Every Lara Jewels ring comes with free sizing.
